Email marketing is a classic business tool, as it increases customer engagement and business growth. Therefore, in order to keep it a successful and helpful tool, we can use tips and tricks to do so. One is Customer Relationship Management (CRM). CRM is cost-effective and can be highly targeted. An optimised email is one where the necessary steps have been taken, the structure has been established and the content is high quality.

Email Design

Strategic email design is important. Here are some steps you can follow for optimised engagement.

  1. State where the email is coming from – say who you are. For example, your name and business name; Mariah from MJS.

  2. Subject line – avoid spammy things like FREE and NOW!

  3. Personalised greeting - for instance, include the person's name.

  4. Body copy should be snappy and to the point. It should be spaced out and separated by images, gifs and other visual elements. - make sure they are relevant to your brand and subject matter.

  5. Call to action as per the above. "For example, if you are promoting your skincare brand, your subject line would be "shop the latest for fresh clean skin"

  6. Footer including contact details. For example, your email, phone number,  Instagram and Facebook

  7. Unsubscribe links legally must be included, usually at the bottom of the email

Call To Action

AKA the CTA

So, you’ve nailed the structure of your email, now it’s time to perfect the  Call To Action, otherwise known as a CTA. A Call To Action is a marketing tool used to prompt an immediate response from a target audience. A good CTA will engage your target audience and push them to do something like purchase, sign up, leave a review and many more. Although in order to make this happen we want to make sure your words, phrasing and tone of voice are chosen appropriately for the specific audiences you want to engage with. A great CTA needs to be clear and clickable.

Here are some tips and tricks on creating a concise, catchy and clickable CTA.

  1. Use pointy language - your audience won’t spend long reading your email, so the more pointy you can be in telling them what you want them to do, the better! Use 1 - 2 words like “join”, “click” and “shop now”.

  2. Make it stand out - a great CTA will need to be super clear on the page, your audience shouldn’t be able to miss it. Consider using vibrant colours, bold fonts and lots of space around the button.

  3. Use an incentive - every time someone clicks, they’re doing it because they believe they will gain some value through clicking through. Consider how you can build value around your CTA. Maybe they’re saving money or learning more about something interesting.

  4. Create a sense of urgency around your offering - make people feel that the offer will expire and that they don’t want to miss out. For example, using a countdown for a discount code.

We’d recommend that you start actioning these quick wins across your emails, see the impact it makes on your conversions! However, don’t be fooled, this is just the basics.
